Channel letters are made of plastic or metal and used as exterior signage on commercial or public buildings. They are often lit internally. Unlit 3D letters are also applied to panels and called dimensional letters. A channel letter is any number, letter or character used in the sign. The major parts of channel letters are the face, return, back, and lighting element. The returns, or letter sides, are made of aluminum sheeting. The face and back are usually acrylic but can also be aluminum, or nonexistent. Because they are highly flexible, channel letters signs are available in an array of colors, fonts, and sizes.

These signs face perpendicular to the traffic flow, and are usually double-sided. They are great for condensed or high traffic shopping areas. Blade signs are very effective for foot traffic, for instance shoppers walking along a sidewalk or mall lined with retail stores or restaurants. They also can be effective for vehicle traffic in condensed areas. Blade signs are one of the oldest type of signs and work well for custom built or antiquated signs. They complement well with wall signs and awnings.

An exterior sign doesn’t have to be illuminated. There are ways to get your brand and logo to pop off the wall and catch the attention of patrons without lighting up. Non-illuminated signs come in a variety of colors, depths, materials, and sizes — just like illuminated channel letters. You can build a channel letter and forego the LEDs to still keep with the look of the center where your business is located. Non-illuminated letters can be fabricated out of aluminum and painted to match any corporate color or even be cut out of acrylic and painted.

Cabinet signs, also referred to as wall signs or box signs, are internally illuminated signs, typically mounted to a storefront wall, though they can also be freestanding as a monument or pole sign. Giving visibility to businesses both day and night, cabinet signs are known for their durability and versatility.

Pylon signs are freestanding structures that can be single sided or double sided. Usually supported by one or two poles, these signs are made of aluminum or steel frame with a rigid or flexible face. Pylon signs can be illuminated using LED or fluorescent lamps or left unilluminated.

These signs are the most versatile, functional type of sign providing a valuable asset to your business. You provide a level of confidence with this permanent structure. These signs will communicate to your customers that you are established and plan on staying for a while.
